It’s 4 a.m., and heavy rain is pouring down. Yesterday morning, I was caught off guard by a sudden downpour on my way to the co-working space. Looking back, it appears that my constant companion this year has been rain.
It’s no joke. I spent January to May in Bali during its rainy season, followed by June to August in Korea with record-breaking monsoons. Currently, I’m in Thailand, right in the midst of its rainy season.
Some may jest that I’m like a 6-year-old boy who delights in chasing after rain, but truth be told, I wasn’t intentionally seeking out the rain; it simply, or technically, followed me wherever I ventured. My thoughts about this unexpected companionship with rain are mixed. Considering I’ll likely continue encountering rain until at least October, I’ve chosen to like her. After all, there’s no benefit in thinking, ‘How unlucky I am to face countless rain showers after coming this far.’ The victim’s mindset creates misery, but fighters are not victims; they fight. Moreover, thanks to a year of constant rain, I earned precious writing material for Rora… It may come back to me years later in some other forms as well.
In honor of that, I found some practical advantages to having rain around:
- It cools down the heat a bit.
- Coffee tastes a bit better.
- Jazz tastes a bit better.
- My mood becomes a bit more serene.
- Seeing people go about their lives in the heavy rain is oddly inspiring.
“So always look for the silver lining and try to find the sunny side of life.”
And as always, Coke Zero tastes the same.
